"Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." // Philippians 4:6
As we journey through the season of Easter, we’re remembering what Easter really means for us—God’s faithfulness. Remember: Christ died and resurrected for you. He wants to give you all the desires of your heart!
One simple but powerful practice to remember this? Taking time to slowly and prayerfully fill out the Weekly Intentions section in your ESS Mass journal.
When we pause to name what’s on our hearts—the people we’re praying for, the graces we’re hoping for, the gifts and experiences we’re thankful for—we become focused, more present, and more ready to receive His love.
Here are 4 tips for using this section to the fullest:
Begin before Mass // Take a few quiet minutes at home to fill out the Weekly Intentions section before you head to Mass—even just the night before or that morning. Having your prayers written down helps you walk into church already centered and ready to encounter God.
Be specific // When you fill it out, don’t be afraid to be detailed. Write down people by name, specific situations where you need strength, and the blessings you want to thank God for. The more specific you are, the more personal your prayer becomes.
Recall moments of gratitude // It’s so good to ask God for what you need—but it’s just as important to remember what He’s already done. That’s why the “In Thanksgiving" section is there! Take time to notice the small gifts: a sweet conversation, a stunning sunset, or a quiet answer to a prayer you barely knew you were praying.
Revisit your list // Before Mass starts or after you receive Communion, open your journal and read back through your list. Offer each name, each need, each thank-you to God. Let those prayers keep you close to Him all the way through the liturgy.
Jesus, prepare our hearts for the gift of the Mass this week. Help us to come before You with honesty, trust, and gratitude. May our thanksgiving draw us deeper into Your love. Amen.
